The Norwegian Colleagues Study Visit to Poland
Between the 19th and 23rd of October ten colleagues from Sunnhordland Museum and Halsnøy Monastery in Norway visited Malbork Castle Museum and some other historic sites in the region, i.e.: Frombork, Elblag, Sopot, the old Gdansk and selected museums in this city.
On Tuesday the 20th of October our Norwegian guests participated in a labour meeting with their Polish professional partners. At the Karwan Conference Centre the Castle Museum curators gave short presentations on some aspects of their works on the World Heritage Site. The presentations opened an interesting discussion on various issues related to the site management, conservation, and education ideas and practice. The meeting let the curators from both museums make direct professional contacts.
The Norwegian colleagues study visit to Poland was the second (out of three) activity of the mutual project: "The Conservation Projects in Malbork Castle in Poland and Halsnøy Monastery in Norway – the Exchange of Good Practices Between Professionals from Poland and Norway". The project is run within the framework of Bilateral Cooperation Fund – part "b", EEA FM 2009 – 2014.

25th International Biennial Exhibition of Modern Exlibris
On Saturday 6 June 2015 within the splendid interior of the Seven Pillar Hall of the Malbork Castle, in the presence of numerous guests, the ceremony of the presentation of the verdict of the Jury of the 25th International Biennale of Contemporary was held. On this occasion also the ceremony of presentation of prizes and medals to the laureates of this years’ review was held.
Over 300 hundred objects of highest artistic and workshop valors have been chosen to be exhibited , with 9 out of the 140 artists who were qualified to participate within the exhibition being rewarded.
The presence of three Polish artists within this prestigious group, amongst others Hanna T. Głowacka
and Andrzej Bortowski constitutes the proof of the very high level of Polish exlibris, which for a number of years now is mirrored by the presence of Polish graphic designers with the world’s top class in this genre of art.
The surprise of this year’s edition of exlibris is constituted by the presence amongst the rewarded ones of two artists for whom this Biennale is their absolute debut i.e.: Anna Trojanowska (Poland) and Andreia Andrade from Portugal, a country not very well recognised in Malbork within the area. Within the works of both artists the Jury recognised the individual approach adopted with regards to the graphic form of the ex libris form along with the specific aesthetics based upon noble simplicity, which is so close to the art of minimalism.
The most recognised graphic of this year’s edition of Biennale is the Japanese artist of Shigeki Tomura. The designer was awarded the First Prize and was also rewarded with the Honour Medal as well as with the Reward of the President of the Association of Polish Artists.
Tomura has been presenting his unique works in Malbork for almost twenty years now. There are no other artists from those known to us via Biennale who - with the characteristic passion of His - present the magnificent world of nature. His miniature works of art on a number of occasions present the mightiness and vitality of nature. It is the author’s relishing of the beauty paralleled by the humbleness in front of the elements of nature that are so breathtaking.
The works of art of the true master are the feast of form, exceptional finesse of details and the subtle climate and workshop artistry.
The current exposition surprises with the great diversity of artistic concepts, the richness of inspirations as well as the individual approach towards the graphic matrix.
This is an excellent and of the kind occasion to admire the achievements of the contemporary virtuosos of this form of graphic art, who in the process of their creation draw from various backgrounds and cultures so different with age and temperaments – all in one location.
To the opening ceremony there arrived almost 200 guests from Poland and from a number of countries from all around the world with about 140 graphic designers, collection owners and bibliophiles, who participated within the 12th International Meeting Of Exlibris Artists and Collection Owners. The splendid guests amongst others included the representatives of two Finnish Exlibris Lovers Associations: Tauno Piiroinen – the President of Exlibris Aboensis and Olli Ylönen – vice-President of Suomen Exlibrisyhdistys with other delegation members, doctor Edward Towpik – The President of the Association of Polish Bibliphiles in Warsaw, Mieczysław Bieleń – vice President of the Association of Polish Bibliphiles and Grzegorz Matuszak – the President of the Łódzkie Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Książki (The Book Lovers Association of Łódź). Amongst the official guests there also were doctor Janusz Janowski – the President of the Association of Polish Artists and Marek Charzewski – The President of the city of Malbork.
This year’s laureates received their prizes from the hands of Mariusz Mierzwiński – The Head Director of the Castle Museum in Malbork and Bogumiła Omieczyńska – the Curator of the Exhibition.

International Medieval Combat Federation World Championships - 30 of April
The first day of struggle at the World Championships IMCF has began.
The competition started with clashes in the category polearms - men and women.
Clearly the participants are very determined to show the dominance of their countries since the first clashes.
Very balanced fights abound in breach of weapons that in the first stage of the tournament we observed quite often. So far Poland remains unbeaten in the men tournament, although hard to identify at this time clear favorite. On the good side they showed up contestants from Sweden and England. In the women's category we noticed a very good debut of South African participant. She won his first two clashes. All the clash bode well for the rest of the championship!
