Infirmary

In the Middle Ages there was a castle hospital here, the present arrangement refers to the Polish period, when the interiors were used as apartments for royal officials. The infirmary, which was in fact a shelter for old and infirm knights who lived their days, had its own refectory, chapel and bathhouse. The most magnificent room was a refectory with a rib vault supported on one centrally placed pillar. The gothic capital of this pillar presents bas-relief scenes of the struggle of the Teutonic Knights with Prussia. From the south, the refectory was connected to the infirmary, adjoining the annex containing the locus secretus (toilet).

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Infirmeria interior complex underwent restoration works, including the rooms received new wall polychromes modeled on the paintings of the Teutonic castle in Lochstedt, and in 1918 the stained glass artist Franz Lauterbach made a set of stained glass windows for the Infirmary, largely preserved to this day.
