The ‘Most Beautiful Polish Books of 2023’ competition – we won!

‘𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗥𝗔 𝗖𝗥𝗨𝗫, 𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗔 𝗖𝗥𝗨𝗫 (…)’ with the award for the ‘Most Beautiful Polish Book of 2023’.

The 64th Polish Association of Book Publishers competition ‘The Most Beautiful Polish Books of 2023’ has given an HONORARY AWARD to the catalogue ‘Nigra crux mala crux. Black and White Legend of the Teutonic Order’ vol. 1, edited by Janusz Trupinda. The competition had 118 publishers and 223 publications, of which 102 were nominated. Selected entries were awarded prizes and honourable mentions. The exhibition catalogue also received an award from the Polish Bibliophiles’ Society.

The laudatory text reads: ‘The form of the book is a surprise, as it is thoroughly modern and at the same time highly original. (…). A pleasant surprise for the reader are the beautiful illustrations exposed on large foldouts (…).

The Grand Prize for the Nigra crux mala crux exhibition catalogue, received on Thursday 23 May, is a wonderful addition to the prize awarded the day before in the 44th Competition for the Museum Event of the Year 𝗦𝘆𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 We are incredibly grateful for the appreciation of this very important exhibition. The story of the black and white legend of the order – which has many shades – shall remain with us for a long time to come.

Another castle publication, ‘The Rule of the Order of the Hospital of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the German House in Jerusalem’, text and translation by Janusz Trupinda, also received an award.

The awards ceremony took place today during the Book Fair at the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw.

And ahead of us is Volume II of the Catalogue for the exhibition Nigra crux, mala crux. We hope to surprise you this time too with the form and content of this publication.
