Postgraduate Studies in Cultural Heritage Protection: Museums, Education, Tourism – recruitment continues

Enrolment for postgraduate studies organised by the Faculty of History of the University of Gdańsk, in which the Castle Museum is a strategic partner, has begun.

The postgraduate course ‘Cultural Heritage Protection: Museums, Education, Tourism’ is aimed in particular at employees of museums, institutions taking care of historical monuments used for tourist purposes, and other cultural institutions. The offer is also addressed to everyone interested in the preservation and tourism potential of the post-Teutonic cultural heritage.

The organisers say that the studies are ‘Studies for practitioners prepared by practitioners’.
The teaching staff of the Postgraduate Studies consists of museum professionals and experienced employees of the University of Gdańsk. The curriculum includes a number of courses grouped into five thematic blocks:

  1. The formation of the Baltic Sea region – courses presenting the history and culture of the Baltic Sea region in a chronological order
  2. Protection and promotion of cultural heritage – courses include:

Copyright in the museum
Protection of monuments in Poland – practical measures
Marketing in heritage protection activities

III. Management and funding in heritage preservation activities – courses
include:

International project management
National and EU funds supporting heritage conservation projects

  1. Museology – courses include:

Basics of historic preservation
Contemporary museology
Art market
Museums without barriers

  1. Cultural Heritage of the Baltic Sea Region – courses include:

Post-Teutonic cultural heritage
Cultural heritage and material culture of Pomerania
Selected issues in the history of art and architecture of the Baltic Sea region

Form and duration of studies: part-time, two-semester studies, weekend classes (Saturday and Sunday) every other week. The postgraduate programme includes 270 hours.
