An honourable mention in the 44th Competition for the Museum Event of the Year Sybilla 2023

We got it!!! Our exhibition ‘Nigra crux mala crux. The black and white legend of the Teutonic Order’ received an honourable mention in the ‘Temporary Exhibitions’ category in the most important competition of Polish museology.

An award ceremony for the winners of the 44th Competition for the Museum Event of the Year 𝗦𝘆𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 took place today at the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław. It was opened by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Hanna Wróblewska, the director of the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław and the chairman of the competition jury, Michał Woźniak, Ph.D.

‘This is a difficult challenge. 58 entries in one category, and only three have to be selected and awarded the Sybil, an award that is everyone’s dream’, said Michał Woźniak Ph.D., chairman of the competition jury, at the opening of the Ceremony.

The ‘Nigra crux mala crux’ exhibition was unique because it initiated an important discussion which is ongoing and growing in influence. This award is proof of that!

The exhibition provided an unusual glimpse into the history of the Teutonic Order and the culture of remembrance built up over the centuries, of which Malbork Castle is the centre. It is the history of the Teutonic Order and everything that happened to it, though without it, over the centuries and which has become permanently embedded in the popular consciousness.

This award is not only a tribute to everyone involved in the design and concept of the Exhibition, but also a success for its main objective – to start a dialogue among the members of the contemporary society.

It is also 70,000 visitors, dozens of articles and scientific materials, meetings, conferences, symposia, many exhibition-related and educational projects carried out with more than 4,000 participants.

Thank you for this award.

The competition is organised by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the National Institute of Museums, and this year’s partner is the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław.
