European Heritage Days – call for initiatives

This year’s slogan for the European Heritage Days is Trails. Networks. Connections.
This September event has been held in Poland for 31 years, and this year it is scheduled for 7-8 September and 14-15 September.

The Malbork Castle Museum, as the coordinator of the event in the Pomorskie Province, invites all owners and managers of historical facilities, museums and open-air museums, research institutes, religious associations, custodians of intangible cultural heritage, local heritage enthusiasts, libraries, guides, theatres, community centres, associations and foundations, sports centres, hotels, companies, and all other persons and institutions that are involved in the protection and promotion of cultural heritage or own a historical facility to organise free cultural and educational events as part of the EDD. Private owners of monuments and managers of facilities that normally are not open to the public are particularly welcome to participate in the EDD. We hope that during these 4 days the participants of the events get to know, appreciate and love the tangible and intangible heritage of Poland better!

You are welcome to submit your events via the form available at: https://edd.nid.pl/zorganizuj-wydarzenie/.

European Heritage Days is a regular cultural, social and educational project of exceptional scale and scope: every September, the inhabitants of the Old Continent can visit the most interesting monuments in their neighbourhood free of charge and enjoy a wide range of cultural and educational events. During the EDD, even normally inaccessible monuments let visitors into their walls, and participants in numerous meetings, lectures and workshops learn about national, regional and local history and culture.

The main purpose of the European Heritage Days is historical and cultural education, promoting the diversity of regional cultural heritage, highlighting the common roots of European culture and promoting intercultural dialogue. The custodians of local cultural facilities and establishments provide free access within the framework of the EDD to monuments and other cultural facilities – museums, open-air museums, parks, gardens – which normally are not open to the public or to which entry is subject to a fee. They also offer many other attractions, such as concerts, exhibitions, historical festivals, demonstrations of dying trades, lectures, fairs of arts and crafts; they promote contact with culture and monuments, and popularise regional traditions and customs among the public.
