Golden Pin for the Malbork Castle
Google announces Golden Pin winners
The Malbork Castle was among the sixteen castles and palaces awarded in the next edition of the Golden Pins. The statuette goes to places most appreciated by users of Google Maps – one from each province. Among the winners were two royal castles – the one on Wawel and the one in Warsaw – but also e.g. The Castle Museum in Gołuchów, the Zamoyski Museum in Kozłówka and the Branicki Palace. Interesting facts about all the winners and travel tips can be found in the free e-book “Trail of castles and palaces”, which is available for download at www.zlotepinezki.pl.
This is the third edition of the Golden Pins, awards that are given to the places most appreciated by users of Google Maps in Poland. In 2020, 16 tourist attractions were awarded, while last year statuettes went to 15 parks and nature reserves. This summer, Google presents a list of castles and palaces – the most unique ones in each province will receive the Golden Pin statuette.
This year’s Golden Pins go to unique places that tell Polish history, present a wealth of architectural styles and remind about many important figures. Castles and palaces, because we are talking about them, are often visited and highly rated by Google Maps users – it is their opinions that affect which places we award. We would like to congratulate all the employees who take care of the Castle in Malbork. We are glad that their daily work has been appreciated and that even more people will learn about the Castle, the largest Gothic castle complex in the world. We hope that the list of winners of the Golden Pins 2023 will become a travel route for many tourists, not only in the summer – comments Elżbieta Różalska from Google Polska.
Malbork Castle with the second Golden Pin
Users of Google Maps rated the Castle in Malbork the highest in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, which received a rating of 4.8 and collected over 51,000 opinions. This is the second award for the Castle – the monument received the first Golden Pin in 2020, when the winners were selected in the category: tourist attractions. The Malbork Castle is the greatest castle of medieval Europe, distinguished on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is the largest Gothic castle complex in the world, with an area of about 21 hectares, and a masterpiece of defensive and residential architecture of the late Middle Ages. The construction of the castle was started by the Teutonic Knights in the 13th century. The three-section defensive fortress in the Gothic style consists of the Low Castle, the Middle Castle and the High Castle. The most beautiful view of the castle is from the side of the river – Nogat – and from the castle tower there is an exceptionally picturesque panorama of the area. In 2021, the castle was visited by over 300,000 tourists from 84 countries.
