„HOMAGE 500. History– Culture – Remembrance” – anniversary exhibition

On Monday after Palm Sunday [April 10, 1525], around 10 a.m., the King of Poland [Sigismund I] rode out from Wawel Castle in Kraków to the city, accompanied by his councilors. In front of the town hall, he dismounted and entered the building, where the Royal Crown was placed on his head, and he was draped in the Royal Cloak, exquisitely adorned with gold and pearls. Beside the town hall, a raised podium had been built, covered with tapestries decorated with gold accents and red carpets. Here, the king took his seat.

What was the reason for such a grand event?

It was on this day that the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, Albrecht Hohenzollern—who had, just two days earlier, become the duke of a new state, Ducal Prussia—paid homage to the Polish king, Sigismund I the Old.

Why are we recalling this now?

Because on April 10, 2025, we will be marking exactly 500 years since this momentous event, known as the Prussian Homage.

And today, we officially invite you to the anniversary exhibition “Homage 500. History – Culture – Remembrance,” which the Malbork Castle Museum will open on April 8—the anniversary of the signing of the Kraków Treaty—to officially begin the commemoration of this event.

The Prussian Homage held great significance for the future of Europe and the former lands of the Teutonic Order. The 500th anniversary is a perfect opportunity to learn about this remarkable history. The period of the Prussian Homage was a time of profound change and transition.

We invite you to read the article on our website, follow us on social media, and, soon, visit the exhibition.

But that’s not all—this spring, the Prussian Homage and the castle exhibition will be the subject of numerous interviews and articles.
