The 25th anniversary of the Siege of Malbork Festival

From the very beginning the central part of the festival has been an attempt to recreate the military operations that took place beneath the walls of Malbork Castle in July 1410, when the Polish-Lithuanian armies, following their victory at the Battle of Grunwald, laid siege to the capital of the Teutonic Order. This spectacular historical re-enactment involves hundreds of re-enactors who, by the light of the fires and amidst the roar of cannons, attempt to capture one of the best-fortified strongholds in medieval Europe.
A craft fair featuring products inspired by the Middle Ages has also been a regular feature of the festival programme throughout its history. Exhibitors must meet strict selection criteria to ensure the event retains its authentically medieval character.
Every year, visitors can enjoy not only the fair on the castle grounds but also a variety of other medieval events. These include various demonstrations, tournaments and workshops that offer both knowledge and entertainment.
With time the Castle Museum has added night tours featuring re-enactors to the festival programme. Known as the ‘Knights’ Adventure’, this is a tour of the castle’s interiors brought to life with re-enactments. It is a unique journey back in time to the Middle Ages, when the castle was bustling with life.
