Historical Mechanisms at Malbork Castle: Designs and Implementations by Conrad Steinbrecht

The exhibition “Historical Mechanisms at Malbork Castle: Designs and Implementations by Conrad Steinbrecht” has been opened.

This year marks the centenary of Conrad Steinbrecht’s death, who served as the Director of the Reconstruction Board of Malbork Castle and its caretaker for many years, which inspired the creation of this exhibition.

The exhibition showcases a selection of preserved documents from Steinbrecht’s personal archive, as well as materials from the extensive legacy of the Reconstruction Board of Malbork Castle. It is the first exhibition in the history of the Castle Museum to narrate the story of historical technical devices within the Malbork Castle complex dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Visitors will have the opportunity to view original designs and historical views of mechanisms that have survived to this day or were destroyed in 1945, including winches for lifting cannons, drawbridges, and hoists for delivering supplies to the attics.

We invite you to the Łaźnia building in the Middle Castle and to the museum’s outdoor areas from April 18 to December 31, 2023. The exhibition will be available daily during the museum’s opening hours.
