Artefacts from the private collection of Elżbieta and Maciej Kilarski

In 2023 our museum acquired ceramic artefacts (16th-18th century) from the private collection of Elżbieta and Maciej Kilarski. Since then, inventory work has been ongoing, led by Dr Barbara Pospieszna of the Department of Arts and Crafts. Seventeenth- and eighteenth-century tiles have arrived in several dozen cardboard boxes from the district of Gdańsk called Oliwa, which have regained their beauty thanks to the efforts of conservation students from the Nicolaus Copernicus University under the supervision of Maria Ruda, together with numerous relics, including tile, faience and stoneware vessels that need to be labelled so that they are not mistaken for Malbork relics obtained from archaeological excavations carried out in recent years on the grounds of the castle and the city. Volunteers working with the museum, coordinated by Małgorzata Daniluk, assisted in this sometimes arduous work. On 16, 19, 22-23 April this year, Malbork residents Wiesława and Wojciech Chilkiewicz, Anna Szostak and Anna Sprawka helped to mark the artefacts. The work is in progress. We look forward to this fruitful partnership for the sake of culture, as there are still many interesting artefacts to be inventoried and marked.
