Malbork Castle has twice reached the podium in Travelist magazine’s Ranking of Polish Castles and Palaces

The Teutonic Castle in Malbork has twice featured on the podium of Travelist magazine’s first Ranking of Polish Castles and Palaces. Internet users awarded it 2nd place amongst the most beautiful Polish castles, as well as 3rd place in the open category ‘Poles’ favourite castle or palace’. The initiative was organised in partnership with the Polish Tourist Organisation.

In the inaugural edition of Travelist magazine’s Ranking of Polish Castles and Palaces, Internet users voted in four categories, based on pre-prepared lists of nominees totalling 58 sites. In the main – open – category, participants were given no suggestions and were free to choose any Polish castle or palace they wanted. In total, nearly 35,000 votes were cast.

This initiative was created in partnership with the Polish Tourist Organisation. Its experts, together with the Travelist magazine team, took part in selecting the nominated castles, palaces and ruins. The purpose of the ranking was not only to identify the most highly regarded historic sites, but above all to demonstrate how places steeped in history can serve as reasons to travel around Poland – from the most recognisable royal residences and grand fortresses to less obvious strongholds and picturesque ruins.

In the ‘Most Beautiful Polish Castle’ category, Malbork received 15.42 per cent of the votes, taking second place. Only Książ Castle ranked higher, whilst Wawel Royal Castle came in behind Malbork.

The castle was also highly rated even when internet users were not provided with a list of candidates. In the ‘Poles’ Favourite Castle or Palace’ category, they were free to name any place in the country, and Malbork took third place with 5.87 per cent of the vote.
