Report from St John’s Fair | 19–21 June 2026
From 19–21 June 2026, as part of Malbork’s Midsummer Night celebrations, a wealth of attractions awaited local residents and tourists both within and outside the castle walls. On the grounds of the Malbork Castle Museum, visitors enjoyed St John’s Fair, complete with a picnic area and workshop zone.
Western Zwinger
This year’s fair took place against the picturesque backdrop of what is known as the Western Zwinger. Visitors passed through the castle gate for a symbolic one zloty. Around 50 exhibitors presented their offerings within the walls. There was also a picnic area where visitors could take a break from the heat in the shade of the Grand Masters’ Palace.
After dark, the Western Zwinger hosted the opening of an open-air cinema organised by the Malbork Centre for Culture and Education. The film ‘Robin Hood’ made an even greater impression against the backdrop of the castle walls.
Workshops
In the workshop area, visitors had the chance to learn to crochet with the University of the Third Age and to weave a wreath with the Malbork Centre for Culture and Education. We are grateful to Malbork Town Council for the flowers used to make the wreaths.
There was also an educational component thanks to the workshops organised by the Education Department of the Malbork Castle Museum. The youngest children moulded keystone-style sculptural decorations from clay and learnt about different types of armour and weapons; they could also take part in the ‘Lord of the Waters’ outdoor game with their parents.
