Report on the April Thursday at the Outer Bailey meeting

Another Thursday at the Outer Bailey meeting has come to an end. This time the event promoted Dr Barbara Pospieszna’s book – Zaproście mnie do stołu… Porcelana polska z manufaktur w Korcu i Baranówce na Wołyniu w zbiorach Muzeum Zamkowego w Malborku [i.e. Invite Me to the Table… Polish Porcelain from the Korzec and Baranówka Manufactories in Volhynia in the Collections of the Malbork Castle Museum]. The title is the latest volume in the series Catalogues of the Collections of the Malbork Castle Museum, which focuses on the Volhynian porcelain manufactories. The first part presents the history of the collection, a description of the exhibition, and displays copies and imitations of porcelain artefacts. The second part provides a detailed catalogue of tableware from Korzec and Baranówka.
The speaker outlined the history of the manufactories in a very interesting and precise manner and presented the most important features of their products, and the participants had the opportunity to see the differences in the ornamentation of both workshops. Dr Barbara Pospieszna spoke about the artistic inspirations of the potters and commonly occurring motifs, such as German flowers (Deutsche Blumen), oak leaf borders, and pineapple strawberries. In addition, the speaker presented uncovered forgeries of items from Korzec and Baranówka. The audience could not only delve into the history of the collections but also view the porcelain artefacts from the Malbork collection.
After the meeting, participants had the opportunity to purchase the book. We invite you to our next meeting scheduled for 21 May!
