Study visit of Malbork’s museum staff to Vilnius

From 11-15 October 2026, a group of representatives from the Malbork Castle Museum paid a study visit to the National Museum of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius. The visit forms part of a larger project involving the joint organisation of the exhibition ‘Eina garas nuo Malburgo… Treasures of Malbork’. The main aim of the visit was to exchange knowledge and good practice between the institutions and to improve the teams’ capabilities in carrying out international projects.

Exchange of experiences

Museum professionals, who work in various areas of museum operations on a day-to-day basis, had the opportunity to learn about approaches to exhibition design, visitor flow management, collection management, conservation of cultural heritage, communication and promotion at one of the largest museum institutions in Lithuania. It was also an opportunity to discuss the details of dismantling the current exhibition and to outline the plans for the next one. Both museums are set to embark on another joint project in 2027. This time it will be the National Museum of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius that will present its collections in the Malbork Castle.

The programme of the visit also included other sites and institutions, allowing Malbork’s museum staff to experience a wide range of approaches to museum work.

An exhibition on Malbork Castle in Vilnius

The study visit was also an opportunity to see the exhibition ‘Eina garas nuo Malburgo… Treasures of Malbork’ in person, which provides a comprehensive account of the history of Malbork Castle and the museum that has operated there since 1961. Curators of the Malbork collections had the chance to see the exhibits in their new setting, and the exhibition’s curator, Bartłomiej Butryn from the Department of Art and Arts and Crafts at the Malbork Castle Museum, was invited to record content about the exhibition and give a lecture to a Lithuanian audience.

Museum professionals from Vilnius in Malbork

This was yet another visit of this kind. In April 2026, museum professionals from Lithuania visited the Malbork Castle Museum.

Co-funded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage as part of the Inspiring Culture 2026-2027 programme. Project title: Eina garsas nuo Malburgo… The Treasures of Malbork – preparation of a temporary exhibition as part of the ‘Inspiring Culture 2026-2027’ programme, carried out in partnership with the National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius.

The exhibition is organised with the support of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, headed by Marta Cienkowska.
