About the Exhibition ‘Nigra crux…’ in Berlin – Panel Discussion

THE ASYMMETRICAL AND CONFLICTED POLISH-GERMAN DISCOURSE ON THE TEUTONIC ORDER
A DISCUSSION REGARDING THE MALBORK EXHIBITION

To celebrate the exhibition Nigra crux mala crux. The Black and White Legends of the Teutonic Order’, available at the Malbork Castle Museum until 15 January 2024, a panel discussion is planned to take place at the Centre for Historical Research of the Polish National Academy of Sciences in Berlin, focusing on the exhibition itself and the challenges related to the history of the order within the context of Polish, German and European culture of remembrance. The event is scheduled for 23 November 2023,

and features Grischa Vercamer, Janusz Trupinda and Igor Kąkolewski.

 

Prof. Grischa Vercamer (Technische Universität Chemnitz) – historian specialising in the Middle Ages, expert on Central-Eastern European history, particularly the history of Poland and the Teutonic Order. Author of numerous publications on the Commandery of Königsberg in the Teutonic State, the depictions of monarchs in European chronicles of the High Middle Ages and Polish-German stereotypes.
Dr Janusz Trupinda – museologist, historian and cultural manager. Director of the Malbork Castle Museum since 2018. Author and co-author of more than a hundred research and popularisation works, including five books. His research focus is on the Middle Ages, particularly the history of the Teutonic Order.
Associate Professor Igor Kąkolewski – historian specialising in the Early Modern Period, museologist, deputy director and (since 2018) director of the Centre for Historical Research of the Polish National Academy of Sciences in Berlin. His research interests include 16–18th-century Polish and European history, the history of Polish and German Jews in the Early Modern Period and the 20th century, culture of remembrance research, museology and history education.
